On 28 May 2026, Ambassador Alejandro Garofali of Uruguay officially handed over the Chairmanship of The Hague Code of Conduct to Jordan’s Ambassador Mohamed Hindawi at the occasion of the 25th Annual Regular Meeting of subscribing states in Vienna. Ambassador Hindawi will lead the effort for the universalisation of the Code during this coming year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Ambassador Mohamed Hindawi has been serving as Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations since 2024. Previously, he was the Chief of staff at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Negotiations Coordination Bureau. Among other assignements, he served in Paris (UNESCO) and Geneva.<\/p>\n

During the Annual Regular Meeting, Subscribing States adopted a press release<\/a> in which they reaffirm the centrality of the HCoC as a cornerstone of transparency and confidence\u2011building in the field of ballistic missile proliferation, and express deep concern over the continued spread and use of ballistic missile technology in multiple conflicts. <\/p>\n

The European Union delivered a statement<\/a> in support of the Code, expressing its concern over “the continued proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems, in particular the pursuit of ballistic missile programmes by several countries in violation of UN Security Council resolutions<\/i>.” It condemned the Russian missile strikes against Ukraine as well as the use of ballistic missiles in the Gulf region.<\/p>\n

During the meeting and for the first time, a Troika has been established, bringing together Amb. Alejandro Garofali Acosta of Uruguay (outgoing Chair 2025-2026), Amb.Mohammed Hindawi of Jordan (current Chair 2026-2027), and Amb. Matilda Aku Alomatu Osei-Agyeman of Ghana (Chair\u2011designate 2027-2028) to ensure continuity, strengthen coordination, and reinforce the collective stewardship of this unique multilateral instrument.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
