ISIS Sofia (Bulgaria)

The Institute is an independent non-profit Bulgarian NGO, not linked to political parties, organisations or movements, as well as to religious or ideological denominations. Judicial person according to the Formal Register of Judicial Persons at Sofia City Court: Consignment 1496, Vol. 23, Ch.V, p. 121, based on Decision 1979 of Sofia City Court of 4 November 1994. ISIS stimulates, organizes and encourages research in the fields of theory and practice of international relations, foreign policy, international law and economics, security, defense, international negotiations and political studies, supports the formation of public awareness and differentiation of opinions in these areas as well as informing about them. The Institute is part of the network of the PfP Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes since 1998 and of the family of EU institutes for foreign policy, international relations and security studies, working in cooperation with the EU Institute for Securitty Studies since 1994.

Boyan Boyanov
Research Assistant
An Associate of ISIS since 2012. He is a Ph.D. student at the International Law and International Relations Department of the Law School at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. M. A. in International Relations from the same School and M. A. in International Public Policy from Osaka School of International Public Policy of Osaka University. He was awarded a Japanese Government research scholarship. Between 2003 and 2008, he was an expert at the International Organizations and Arms Control Department, International Cooperation Directorate, Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria. His research interests have been vested in nuclear weapons nonproliferation, arms control issues, international terrorism and Northeast Asian politics, particularly Japan’s foreign policy and North Korea’s nuclear-powered diplomacy. He has academic publications on these issues.

Born in 1981, M.A. in International Relations, M. A. in International Security and PhD holder in International Relations at the Law School of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridsky”. Assistant Professor at the Department of International Relations of the Law School of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridsky” and Associate of ISIS since 2016.
