The Department of Political Science at Aarhus University was established in 1959 and is one of the oldest and largest of its kind in Denmark. The section on International Relations consists of 22 researchers. The team is very internationally oriented, engages in international debates and networks and publishes in leading international journals. Research is conducted on a wide range of IR-topics, including international institutions such as the EU and UN and topics like the Middle East, globalisation and international policies and strategies such as national security strategies and international doctrines on humanitarian intervention.

Knud Erik Jørgensen is Professor of International Relations and European Studies. He has twice been visiting fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Research (European University Institute, Florence). He was founding president of EISA and currently (co-)edits Global Affairs, a journal bridging academia and diplomatic practice. He is a leading expert in the field of EU foreign policy and global governance.
